Persol is an Italian luxury eyewear company. The name is derived from “per il sole,” which, in Italian, means “for the sun.” Formed in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, Persol originally specialized in sunglasses for pilots and sports drivers.
Today, Persol has a heavy influence in all types of eye wear. They are worn by many celebrities such as Ryan Gosling, Patrick Dempsey, George Clooney, Orlando Bloom, Justin Timberlake and the iconic “James Bond” actors, Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan.
Keeping with the innovation of today, the company developed the first flexible stem. This flexible stem system is known as the patented Meflecto system and was one of the first spring hinges ever developed for eyewear. Currently all “plastic” Persol spectacles are made in Italy using cellulose acetate, a hypoallergenic material derived from cotton.
