Diagnostic Contacts and the Contact Lens Exam

Diagnostic lenses are contacts that are selected by the doctor and placed on the patient’s eye to aid in determining the optimum prescription, vision and comfort. Using an instrument called the biomicroscope; the doctors will evaluate how the lens fits the cornea.  It should center and move properly so that tears are flushed out and oxygen reaches the cornea.

Inserting and Removing Contacts

If you are new to wearing contacts or just need a reminder on how to insert and remove them, the assistants will ensure that you are entirely comfortable placing and removing the contact from each eye. All patients are given the recommended cleaning/disinfecting solution and a hand out that outlines the most common situations patients may experience their first week of wearing contacts.

Continued Care Exam

Our doctors require that patients return for an evaluation of contacts after they are worn for a continued period of time. They want to ensure the contacts are clean, and fitting properly as dirty contacts lead to infections and lid inflammations.

Annual Eye Exams

Our doctors require that every patient wearing contacts return for annual comprehensive exams and a contact lens evaluation. Contact lens are categorized like a medication and the prescription must be renewed. This visit also gives the doctor  an opportunity to offer a newer more advanced product to the patient. The doctors also stress the importance of having a pair of glasses and not to be solely dependent on wearing contacts for clear vision. Call us at 972-307-5000 for an appointment today.
